So, we usually have really hectic mornings. Correction...we USED to have really hectic mornings. Once our kids started school, our lives changed drastically and the hours we kept did too. In spite of being intelligent individuals, neither Adam nor I realized the little things we could do to make our lives (and our mornings) easier.
You'd think we would've employed a little common sense from the get-go, but apparently our intelligence only stretches so far.
This year, or rather, this semester, we did something revolutionary. We bought a coat rack.
Not just any coat rack. A coat rack JUST for the kids.
A specified place.
Designated.
Just for them.
And we hung it at their level.
School gear is especially bulky in the winter. Especially with additional bags of snowpants and boots. But it all fits right here.
So they come home from school and everything goes on their hook.
Brilliant it's not...but man, has it changed things for me.
I have purposed to make lunches and fill water bottles the night before (also genius) and we are careful to set out their uniforms so they can get up and get dressed.
Earlier this week I came face to face with the sheer brilliance of common sense
Sophia: (Frantically rushing around) I don't have my water bottle.
Me: It's in your bag already.
Sophia: But where's my lunch?
Me: In your bag.
Sophia: My mittens?
Me: Bag.
Adam: Well, you just thought of everything, didn't you?"
Me: Why yes, yes I did.
Change of mindset. Changes Everything.
It's a little unsightly. A little bulky for the winter months. But it works. And that, my friends, makes the ugliness worth it.
