I have a bit of a fascination with cupcakes. One of my very favorite blog posts ever is called Cupcake Dreams. I think people who read it thought maybe I actually knew how to bake and decorate cupcakes.
I don't. I just dream of this kind of place, I guess. Some days I think running a sugary-sweet shoppe would be the perfect way to spend my days. Even though I lack the know-how and talent to do so.
When we moved to Fort Collins, I discovered I wasn't the only one in love with the idea. This town has its very own Cupcakery. And on Thursdays, they do one gluten free flavor.
It's called Buttercream Cupcakery and it served as the perfect bribery for me to cut the Hobbit's hair.
His hair had gotten out of control, so last Thursday, we went for a cut. The woman wasn't nice. She was pretty direct (Read: MEAN) and she kept commenting about how bad his hair looked (like I didn't know that already.) But she got the job done. She scared him into sitting still.
And I'd promised Cupcakes.
I'm not above bribing my children. I say whatever works. I try not to do it with food, but it is what it is.
He did amazingly well. And when we got to the cupcake shop, he literally stole the cupcake off the counter before I even paid for it.
He was pretty happy. It's rare that he gets a treat that doesn't taste like cardboard with frosting on it. Ok, that's not really true. We've come a long way with this gluten free stuff, baby.
My sugar-fasting self watched him with watering tastebuds but it didn't last long. He polished that sucker off in record time.
Who can blame him? They're so pretty.
Afterwards, he asked for another one.
Holy long lashes batman. The injustice of it all.
Sam didn't even care that the flavor of the week was coconut. He devoured it. Frosting first.
I love spending my days with him. When my other kids are in school, the Hobbit is like an angel-prince. No joke. He's so fun and easy and he says things to me like "Peach!? I need to go poopie."
He calls me Peach. And he means it. And I call him Mario. And he loves it.
We're quite a pair.
Smitten with him and with the cupcakes.
I did start adding small bits of sugar back into my diet, but I got pretty sick, so these cupcakes are for decorative purposes only. Well, until my kids get a hold of them. Then, they're gone.
If you're ever in Fort Collins, visit Buttercream Cupcakery. They have great flavors (Girl Scout Cookie Thin Mint!? Pistachio?! Red Velvet!?) Yum. For now, it's doing quite nicely to serve my cupcake dreams.
