Forever ago, when I finished working on The Busy Scrapper, I knew I needed a break. I had a LOT (still do) to learn about writing fiction, so I took 2009 to learn. And learn. And learn. In the process, I walked away from papercrafting altogether. I couldn't do it all, and frankly, I'd lost the desire.
I got my book deal (for my novels) and at the center of that story is a big, beautiful scrapbook. The kind you find hidden in a trunk. The kind that you open and when you do, a whirlwind of laughter pours out, bringing with it a collection of memories.
Fast forward to about a month and a half ago. I was going through a bunch of photos of our move and I started to think about all the stories I wasn't telling. So much had changed, but none of it had been documented. And suddenly, I knew I needed to start up again.
Telling our stories was too important.
Long story short, one morning, I got a hair-brained idea. Truth be told, I think it had been percolating for a little while... but that day, it turned into a full-fledged idea. One that needed some attention.
And one that resulted in some super exciting news!
I'm writing a new book!
My proposal to Memory Makers Books was officially accepted and all systems are a GO! This isn't fiction, it's another idea book, like my first two...
So, I'm hard at work finishing up my rewrite for my second novel in the series and outlining/organizing this one.
I can't say much more about it, but I can say that it is really, really exciting and will have loads of creative ideas in it! I've already got a few contributors lined up but am working on getting the rest. Let me tell you... so far, I'm working with a dream cast! I love this part!
I've come to realize that when it's not time for a thing, it feels forced. I think God takes the desire away. But when the desire returns, I think it's important to pay attention. I'm not talking about doing laundry or unloading the dishwasher... but creatively, two years ago, it wasn't time for me to do a third book. Now, it is. And I'm more than thrilled.
In the midst of all this house buying craziness, it's a much-needed source of excitement!
