Once upon a time I thought I would be an actress. I had NYC dreams that most likely gave my poor mom a heart attack, a stroke and a strong desire to drink from a flask stuffed in a paper bag...but eventually I wised up.
I'm gonna blame my change of heart on the cow unitard:
There are so many things wrong with that picture. Like the fact that I thought it was okay to scrapbook it.
And years later, put it on my blog.
I have no shame.
In college, one of my theatre professors told us "If you can make a living doing anything else and be happy...do it." I know what he meant. If there's a way to work theatre into your life without making it your everything AND you're still happy...do it.
Years later, I'm lucky enough to still have the stage in my life. We're kicking around the idea of producing a show here in Colorado, but in the meantime, we're writing another show for Christian Youth Theatre in Chicago. A new production of Hercules. I thought I'd share the first tidbit with you because this is the song that's making me cry all over myself...
To tell you my husband is ridiculously talented would be redundant. When he's singing, writing or playing... fuggetaboutit. I am loving where he's taking Hercules...far from the Disney version, to be sure.
This leaves me wondering 1. How to write a script worthy of this music and 2. How to segue into my next point. (By the way, don't you think it should be spelled "segway?" I mean, come on, Webster. Way to confuse us.)
Months ago now, I got to work on this awesome project:
It's a Bible for preschoolers put out by Group and Tyndale. I wrote several lessons for this Bible and in all of the freelancing I've done, this was by far the most weighty.
I'm helping kids understand the BIBLE. That's a big deal. I had to pray a LOT.
And drink a LOT of coffee.
But, the editors at Group knew how to make it accessible to kids even younger than my Hobbit.
It's very experiential for the child. You read the story, but you also do activities along the way. So your kids aren't just hearing the words, they're doing something to help them remember the words.
As a mom, I'm thrilled with the way this Bible turned out. As a former children's pastor's wife, I would order them for every pre-school classroom.
As a blogger, I am lucky enough to give a couple away. Surely you know a child or a church who would benefit from this book. Leave me a comment and I'll draw two winners this Friday.
You can read a review HERE and watch a video of a mom actually using the Bible with her kids here:
I'm thankful I got to work on this book. It's one of those things that I feel makes a difference. It matters. That's pretty awesome.
So, do you want one? Leave a comment and you could be the lucky duck who wins!
