I considered myself a fairly detailed person, however, when it comes to party planning, interior design or getting myself dressed in the morning, the details are often better left to other people. People with a flair for these things.
People like Lauren Wave Delamater. (Click her name to visit her site!)
Her mom is someone I consider my mentor, the woman who gave me the health kick in the pants I needed and helped me discover I have food allergies.
She also gave me a lot of courage to set boundaries and tune in to what God was saying back when what he was saying was a little bit scary. (Not so unlike what he's been saying recently.)
Lauren recently had a baby, but thankfully she is still planning events (like weddings, parties of all kinds and, in my case, the entire weekend of my launch.)
Lauren was in the details.
She suggested I do the signing at Barnes and Noble. She got me on television and in two different newspapers. She then turned her attention to the actual launch party, and let me just tell you... I didn't have to think of anything. Lauren did it all.
When you're a busy working mom who is flying to a different state to launch a book, this is invaluable.
She listened to what I wanted, read an early copy of my book and then planning her ideas with mine...and she did the most amazing job.
She also found a great deal on these gorgeous tulips (which have special significance to Campbell...and to me...)
No detail went unnoticed.
From outside, The Next Picture Show looked like it was THE place to be...and it was. We had a ton of fun! (And the food was really good too!)
I put together a couple of big baskets for giveaways/door prizes and everyone could drop their name in the basket for a chance to win. It was fun because people I knew won the baskets...and you know I love to give presents.
I sat behind the table most of the night, but I had great company...
And around the corner, out of my view, this was going on...
Chatting, eating, hanging out, reconnecting...it was everything I could've hoped for...
Overall, I feel SO thankful I had someone like Lauren to take care of the details, to handle the little things (and many big things...) it saved me SO much headache. I walked in just before the party started and left on Cloud Nine.
If you're in the Rockford/Dixon, Illinois area and you need an event planner, I cannot recommend this one high enough. She is professional, detailed and stayed on top of everything that I would've let fall through the cracks. Thank you so much, Lauren, for being such a huge blessing and helping my party go off without a hitch!
(Thank you Aunt Terri for snapping this photo of Lauren and I! She was busy when Lyndsey was taking the last of our pics!)
...when can we do it again?
