Dear Big Dreamer,
This is a noisy world. It's hard to find your footing in a world that's so loud. And by loud, I don't mean "Someone is blasting their music outside." I mean, everywhere you look, there is some sort of sensory stimuli. The internet. Your phone. Your email. One look at Facebook and you're overloaded. Ready to shut it down.
And worse, it often makes us feel bad. Like we aren't doing enough. Like we're the only person in the world who doesn't have everything figured out.
Like our home/clothes/kids/dinners just aren't enough.
We aren't enough.
It's hard to dream big when you aren't sure how everyone else seems to juggle life with such grace and ease. It's hard to dream big when you wake up feeling a step behind.
I know you've got big dreams inside of you...but maybe they feel too big. Too far away.
Maybe the world is full of too many disappointments.
We live in a self sufficient culture. A culture where we can do it on our own. We don't need help. "I am enough" is the motto of the day. You may already know how I feel about that.
The truth is, courage, the kind you need to pursue a big dream, the kind you need to take a risk (especially if you, like me, are not a risk taker) doesn't just materialize out of thin air...and I suppose you could muster it on your own. For a while.
But wouldn't it be easier to get it from somewhere else?
Last week was probably the worst week I've had in a long time. Things very much out of my control started spiraling and I was kind of a mess.
I'm dreaming big again, so I suppose I should've expected it. Every time you take a step in to your purpose, you can almost guarantee there will be road blocks. Big ones. And my sister recommended a song to me. You may think it's crazy that a song could make any difference, but it did.
It reminded me that I don't have to be brave on my own.
I don't have to be enough. Because I never can be.
I'm dreaming big and as long as I'm walking in His will, nothing about those dreams falls solely on me. Yes, I have to do the work, but remember, if you commit this big dream to the One who gave it to you in the first place, He isn't going to walk away when things get hard.
It was time to press in. To push through. To overcome. To be brave.
I'm still doing that. Because the big dream (and the little dreams along the way)--they're worth it.
Don't try to do this thing on your own, Big Dreamer. Lay it down and ask him to carry it for you for awhile.
And listen to this until you feel brave enough to pick it back up again...
Love this song!
